An example of this was a study conducted in 2007 revealing that almost 20% of all of Ireland's native plant life was under threat from the impact of global warming and as many as 171 native species could be extinct by 2050. The frequency and intensity of extreme weather are also having an effect on the flora of our planet. As droughts and other heat disasters caused by our warming planet become more prevalent many plant species may not have enough time to adapt and be at risk of extinction.
